大寒 Grande Freddo / Great Cold

IL Grande Freddo è l'ultimo dei 24 termini solari del tradizionale calendario lunisolare cinese. Secondo il calendario gregoriano inizia ogni anno intorno al 20 gennaio, quando il sole raggiunge il 300° grado nel cielo e dura 15 giorni.
The Great Cold is the last of the 24 solar terms of the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar. According to the Gregorian calendar it starts every year around January 20th, when the sun reaches the 300th degree in the sky and lasts 15 days.

大寒

I ventiquattro termini solari sono strettamente correlati alle attività agricole. Durante il freddo, ovunque ci sono ancora poche attività.

The twenty-four solar terms are closely related to farming activities. In the cold period, there are still few farm activities everywhere. 

  大寒迎年 

Secondo il calendario, dopo il Grande Freddo (che è l'ultimo termine solare dell'anno, arriva il nuovo anno. Da qui il detto di "Grande freddo accoglie l'anno".  

According to the calendar, since the beginning of the new year comes right after the Great Cold, that is the last solar term in the year, so there is also the saying of "Great Cold Welcomes the Year".

“岁岁平安”

Quando arriva il Grande Freddo, oltre a pulire la casa e preparare la pancetta, in passato le persone si sfidavano per comprare la paglia di sesamo. Questo è per prepararsi per la notte di Capodanno. Secondo la leggenda, a Capodanno la paglia di sesamo dovrebbe essere posata sul ciglio della strada: i bambini stanno giocando in mezzo al rumore, mentre la paglia di sesamo viene schiacciata. L'omonimo è "calpestare la vecchiaia", e poiché le pronunce "calpestare" e "vecchie" sono le stesse, il significato è "Sempre in pace negli anni". Inoltre, la paglia di sesamo ha un buon significato di "fiori di sesamo alto" e cerca un buon colore per il nuovo anno.

Once the Great Cold arrived, in addition to cleaning the house and preparing the bacon, in the past, people wished to compete to buy sesame straw. This is to prepare for New Year's Eve. According to legend, on New Year’s Eve, the sesame straw should be laid on the side of the road. Children are playing in the rumours, and the sesame straw is crushed. The homonym is “stepping on the old age”, and because the “broken” and “old age” pronunciations are the same, it means “ old and safe".
In addition, the sesame straw has a good meaning of "high sesame blossoms" and seeks a good color for the New Year.
