观音菩萨成道日Festa dell'Illuminazione della Dea della Misericordia / Guanyin Bodhisattva Enlightment Day

Secondo il calendario lunisolare cinese il 19 giugno di ogni anno si celebra l'Illuminazione della Dea della Misericordia.  Quest'anno cade il 12 luglio.

According to the Chinese lunar calendar, on June 19 of every year, the Guanyin Bodhisattva Enlightent is celebrated. This year it falls on July 12th.

Insieme al Buddhismo, il culto di Guān Yīn fu introdotto in Cina agli inizi del I secolo d.C. Le rappresentazioni del bodhisattva in Cina prima della dinastia Song erano maschili; immagini successive mostravano attributi di entrambi i sessi e ciò in accordo con il venticinquesimo capitolo del Sutra del Loto dove Avalokiteśvara ha il potere di assumere ogni forma o sesso al fine di alleviare le sofferenze degli esseri senzienti.

Along with Buddhism, Guān Yīn's cult was introduced in China at the beginning of the 1st century AC. The bodhisattva representations in China before the Song dynasty were male; further images showed attributes of both sexes in accordance with the twenty-fifth chapter of the Lotus Sutra where Avalokiteśvara has the power to take any form or sex in order to alleviate the suffering of sentient beings.

Una leggenda taoista narra che Guan Yin era la figlia di un padre ambizioso e prepotente, che per aumentare la sua posizione sociale l’aveva destinata ad un matrimonio con un ricco signore. Lei voleva dedicare la sua vita alla ricerca dell’illuminazione. Così si rifugiò in un monastero per diventare monaca, ma il padre infuriato la raggiunse ordinando ai monaci di destinarla a umili lavori. Un lavoro duro che lei svolgeva comunque con amore mostrando la sua sensibilità, gentilezza, compassione tanto da farsi amare da tutti. Il padre non le dette tregua e per sfogare la sua ira fece incendiare il monastero. Ma lei riuscì a salvare tutti solo con la forza delle sue mani. Il padre la fece allora imprigionare e uccidere. Per la sua condotta esemplare in vita diventò una divinità. Mentre stava per varcare le porte del cielo fu colpita da un lamento proveniente dalla terra. Pensò che non poteva abbandonare chi soffriva e decise di tornare sulla terra ad alleviare i dolori e le sofferenze degli esseri umani. Per leggere oltre clicca qui

A Taoist legend tells that Guan Yin was the daughter of an ambitious and overbearing father who, in order to increase his social position, had destined for a wedding with a wealthy lord. She wanted to devote her life to the search for lighting. So she took refuge in a monastery to become a nun, but her angry father reached her by ordering the monks to put her down to humble jobs. A hard work she did however with love showing her sensitivity, kindness, compassion so much to be loved by everyone. His father did not give her any respite, and in order to vent his anger he burned the monastery. But she managed to save them all by the strength of her hands. Her father then imprisoned her and killed her. For her exemplary conduct in life she became a divinity. As he was about to go through the gates of the sky, she was struck by a lament coming from the earth. She thought she could not abandon the sufferer and decided to return to earth to alleviate the pain and suffering of humans.
