The solar period 谷雨 (Gǔyǔ) "Grain Rain" follows those of 清明 (Qingming), 春分 (Chunfen) "Spring Equinox", 立春 Lichun '"Beginning of Spring", 雨水 (Yǔshuǐ) "Rainwater" and the 惊蛰 (Jīngzhé) "Awakening of Insects" and begins when the Sun reaches the celestial longitude of 30°.

Quest'anno cade il 20 marzo. / This year it falls on March 20th.

There is the ancient saying 雨生百谷” (“Yǔ shēng bǎi gǔ”) "Rain lets hundred cereals born" but it is also time to seeding seedlings.

Gǔyǔ is the last period of solar energy in the spring, the arrival of solar energy of the "Grain Rain" means that the cold weather is basically over, the temperature picked up faster, greatly conducive to the growth of cereal crops.

The traditions of the Caird Rain Festival include three things like tea sipping, eating cedar and taking a peony tour.

In Beijing, the Peony Fair is held on the 金山 hill.
