元宵节 (Yuánxiāo jié)

La Festa delle Lanterne s'inserisce nei festeggiamenti per l'anno nuovo e segna la fine delle celebrazioni. Cade il quindicesimo giorno del primo mese di questo nuovo anno, secondo il calendario lunare cinese, Basandoci sul calendario gregoriano si trova in febbraio o, al massimo, in marzo. Quest'anno cade oggi, l'11 febbraio.

Il quindicesimo giorno del primo mese abbiamo la prima luna nuova che segna la fine dell'oscurità. 

Da qui il significato delle lanterne, quali fonte di luce. 

Inizialmente solo l'imperatore e pochi dignitari possedevano lanterne, usate durante questa festa fin dal periodo Han (206 ac - 25 dc), oggi esse assumono spesso sembianze di animali, il colore è rosso, simboleggiando buona fortuna.

汤圆 (Tāngyuán)

La luce richiama il fuoco. Questo giorno si temeva che il Dio del Fuoco bruciasse la capitale. Sapendo che gli piaceva mangiare gli gnocchi di riso ripieni (tāngyuán), durante la Festa delle Lanterne si cucinano i tangyuan e si fanno i fuochi d'artificio.

猜灯谜 (Cāi dēngmèi)

Oggi, infine, si usa fare gli indovinelli (cāi dēngmèi) per conoscere i buoni auspici per l'anno appena iniziato.

The light draws fire. This day it was feared that the God of Fire to burn the capital. Knowing that he liked to eat rice dumplings (tangyuan), during the Lantern Festival the Chineses cook tangyuan and make fireworks.

Besides, today they use to solve riddles on the lanterns (cāi dēngmèi) to learn about the good wishes for the just begun year.
