11/11 Festa dei Single / Singles' Day

11 novembre

Storia d'amore

**************************************************************************
What is the "Single's Day"? Is it really just an opportunity to crowd the malls that offer promotions? At first sight it would seem so.
Reading an article on Baidu (http://baike.baidu.com/view/23105.htm) shows that it is not so, or at least it is not only so. Let's see:
"The Feast of Singles is a kind of popular entertainment festival among young people to celebrate the fact that the person is still single (family pride). November 11: Singles's Day, from that date, on this day there are four Arabic numerals "1" in the form of four straight sticks, but "smooth stick" in the Chinese language has the meaning of "one person", it is therefore an alternative festival dedicated to the family of one person, therefore this day was dedicated to "Single" (One's Day Festival).
The Singles' Day was born in the campus and has spread through the Internet and through other mass media and gradually turned into a culture for singles.
Today, more and more candidates singles get married on that day, but it is also the date on which large commercial companies decide to start a period of promotions. "
"Chat by lying at the University of Nanking"
On the origins of this festival, founded in the early 90s of the last century, there are different thoughts. One of them is the so called "Chat lying down."
It is said that in 1993 in the dormitory of the University of Nanking during the night four senior students have made a chat on the subject of being unmarried, on how to break free from parental pressure inclined to want to see them married etc. They were trying to organize an activity in order to promote their ideas the next November 11, giving the base for the singles' culture that gradually had become a fun culture. This culture has been spread in the entire community with the participation of single men and women, in particular thanks to online media.

"Love Story"
At the origin of this feast there is another figure and that's what I prefer, "The Love Story."
It sais
that "there was a person named Mu Guang Kun, born on November 11, 1970. Because of his name (which sounds like Guang Gun which means" bachelor "), from elementary to university was indeed nicknamed" bachelor " . When he was a sophomore at the University of Nanking a girl started a love affair with him. Just did not expect, happiness is so short - thought - then suddenly found out that the girl was suffering from a terminal illness and that soon she died. The day she died, Mu Guang Kun went upstairs, lit candles, playing a flute. Since then, Mu Guang Kun seemed a changed man. In the year of his graduation, his birthday, the November '11, the companions of his dorm went with him on the roof of the building to drink together and to celebrate. From then on, the story of Mu Guang Kun has spread in the University of Nanjing and so the date of his birthday was dedicated to "Single." This story was later used for a short film made by students of the Campus."

"Credit card for "Good people""

The term "双十一" (meaning "Double 11") was trademarked in China by Alibaba Group on December 28, 2012, under registration numbers 10136470 and 10136420. In Oct 2014, Alibaba threatened legal action against media outlets that accept advertising from competitors that use this term.
As Matthias Hendrichs wrote on LinkedIn this is "the biggest online spending spree (globally) invented by Alibaba. In the first 12 hours goods valued more than $12 billion were sold over Alibaba's various channels."
However I like to think "as the Chinese do it," that the day dedicated to singles is also, paradoxically, the preferred day to contract marriages. As the China vikipedia (Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singles%27_Day) explains:

2011 marked the "Singles Day of the Century" (Shiji Guanggun Jie), this date having six "ones" rather than four—an excuse to take celebrations to a higher level. Although this date is meant to celebrate singlehood, the desire to find a spouse or mate is often expressed by young Chinese on this date, while other love-related issues are discussed by the Chinese media.

Marriage proposal
In 2011, an above-average number of marital celebrations occurred in Hong Kong and Beijing on November 11. In addition to meaning "single", the four "ones" of the date can also mean "only one" as in "the only one for me". Some people will use this date and this meaning to tell their special someone that they are the only "one" in their heart.

Festa del Doppio Nove / Double Nine Festival

上升高 "Shangsheng Gao"

The Chongyang Festival (Double Ninth Festival) falls on the 9th day of the ninth lunar month, this year on October 9.The Book of Changes, 易经 Yi Jing (or 周易 Zhou Yi, from the name of the Duke of Zhou) gave the male value 阳 (Yang) to the number "9". Being the 9th lunar month, the number nine doubles, leading to 重 Chong (double)  阳 Yang (nine), thence there's the name 重阳 "Chongyang".The pronunciation of "9"(jiu) , recalls doubled 久久 (jiujiu)  meaning "long" or "long life." Such name gives to the celebration auspicious meanings. As per the legend, during the Eastern Han Dynasty a man named Hengjing managed to fight evil clumbing a mountain. For this reason, the Chongyang Jie is also called "Ascending Heights Feast".上升 高 "Shangsheng Gao".高 "gao" has the same pronunciation as 糕 "gao" (cake), therefore on this day people eat the "Double Ninth Cake", 重阳 糕.The 9th day of the ninth lunar month is also the blooming chrysanthemums' period. In China there are many kinds of chrysanthemums: people have been loving them since ancient times.People also love drinking chrysanthemum wine, women put the flowers into their hair, or hang them on the windows and around doors. In 1989, the Chinese government has dedicated this festival to the older people, thence the name "Senior's Day". The younger generations lead the elderly relatives to go for walk in the mountains or give gifts.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, falls every year on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. This year is 15 September.
The origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival is lost in mythology.
It is said that one day ten suns appeared in the sky. People on the earth could no longer bear the heat and turned to Emperor Yao (2000 BC). The emperor then decided to call Hou Yi, the mighty expert man, ordering him to hit nine of them. In fact he left one. Following Hou Yi became a tyrant and stole the elixir of immortality from the Queen Mother of the West. The beautiful Chang 'E, his wife, in turn stole it away to save the people from
Hou Yi's tyranny and, once drun, gravity had no effect on her. So she flew to the moon.
As soon as people on Earth knew what had happened, he wanted to thank the goddess Chang 'E, and to appeal to have happiness and tranquility.

It is also said that Hou Yi built himself a palace on the sun and they meet each other on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month of every year.
The complementarity of the Moon and Sun is the foundation of Taoism with the symbols of YIN 阴 (Moon) and YANG 阳 (Sun).

We know that already during the Song Dynasty (1127-1279) "moon cake" were already offered. Today people are all together, eating moon cakes and observing the full moon that this time of the year is very bright due to its distance from Earth.
The Mid-Autumn Festival was considered a traditional festival until the Tang period (618-907), became official during the Song period (960-1279). The popularity, almost up to the Spring Festival, reached only during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) Dinasties.

Novità anno 2016 / 2017 - News for 2016 / 2017

https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLzIl5F450aWJFx4oNAhyw0h5RrCqmzIn8&v=aTTVo85Ae1w

***********************************************************
For anyone wishing to start studying the Chinese language the courses offered on the market are many. Ours is not so different from the others. We are spoiled for choice.

News for 2016/2017 What is it?

This year we have thought of all those students who have taken courses, learned grammar but who have difficulty to understand and make themselves understood, both orally and in writing.

After identifying this recurring difficulties, we decided to prepare an ad hoc course.

What purpose it aims to achieve?

A) help students understand the written language and express themselves in Chinese more easely
B) make more fluent oral language and at the same time helping students understand what the Chinese teacher says.

How?

A) Written: one hour of lesson is devoted to read facilitated original novels. The reading highlights the difficulties of students and allows the teacher to remedy them. At the same time, based on the reading, students are encouraged to express themselves correctly, writting small composures.

 B) Oral (one hour lesson): with the use of DVD containing short dialogues the students are invited to make their expressions gradually more complex. On the basis of the dialogues students, in turn, expressed themselves in autonomy.

C) Oral (one hour lesson every two weeks): with the teacher's help native speakers promote the talks in class, keeping in mind the material acquired during previous lessons.

For whom is the course?

The level required to participate in the lessons is not well defined. Of course more it's high, more it's fast learning. However, even students with a few courses behind may benefit from it. We think of all the students who have attended and / or continue to attend Chinese language courses.
