(Lìxià) Inizio dell'Estate / Beginning of Summer

"Xià" in the word "Lìxià" means "big", meaning that the plants sown in spring have grown vertically. In ancient times, people attached great importance to early summer labeling.

After the beginning of the summer, a critical water demand period starts for large areas of rice planting, and agricultural production is closely related to the arrival of heavy rain and the amount of rain.

The start of summer solar terms 谷雨dates back to the late period of the Fighting States (239 BC), which indicates the season's conversion and the beginning of the summer.

On the day of the beginning of the summer, the ancient emperors had to lead the civil and military officials to the southern suburbs of the capital to celebrate the summer and hold a summer ceremony. All monarchs wore Zhu colored dresses and even the horses and car flags must be red, in order to express their plea for good harvest and good wishes.
